A Magic Roundabout but not the one I was looking for.
The Magic Roundabout--the one under my investigation, anyway--was an animated television series shown in Britain during the sixties and seventies. It had originally been made in France and, when it came over to the UK, was somewhat transformed. Eric Thompson (Emma Thompson's pa) was put in charge of writing the show in English. He would watch the existing animation without sound and would rewrite the scripts according to what he saw. Consequently, the English show was much different than its French incarnation. Mr. Thompson, I should add, also did all the narration and character voices for the program, which, in all outward appearances, was a very unconventional children's show, indeed.
I can't in any definite way tell you what the show was actually about; nor can I direct you to a place with a short summary, but if you look around this place long enough you can get a pretty good idea.
I'm in contact with some people from Britain, and the show came up in conversation. I thought I'd look into it. Now I have.
I didn't set off any fireworks this July 4th, but I likely will tomorrow. I felt too crummy today. No one reason; more like a dozen or so. I will sleep tonight and feel better in the morning. Really.
