I had sushi and mochi ice cream for dinner yesterday. It was absolutely divine. Of course the day couldn't have ended like that. No. Sushi and mochi, delicious though they are, are not entertaining to the gods. We are, after all, something akin to reality tv to them. And what is good reality tv (an oxymoron if there ever was one) without temporary homelessness?
Looooong story short: Had a spat with Ma early in the day. Didn't think much of it -- well, that's a lie. It really upset me, but I assumed that, like all our little quarrells, it would pass with little effect on the status quo. She certainly seemed over the whole thing by the time I was enjoying my sushi, or at least that's what the tone of her voice on the phone had indicated.
When I got home, however, it was very apparent that this was not the case. I went to the back of the house to avoid the ire I was greeted with, but soon certain passive aggressive behaviors made it impossible to sit in my house without being bombarded by ill will. I decided to go Jenna's apartment until tempers settled, and on my way to the car I was told not to come back.
So. For the first hour at Jenna's I sat, ground my teeth and tried to get ahold of Doc Edwards, as Jenna's roommate's boyfriend watched quite possibly the most head throbbingly bad movie known to man: Team America. I finally thought to call a friend to ask if our dear professor had changed her number, and indeed she had.
Talked with the venerable professor for a while at her place, and then was treated to a much needed 11 pm lesson at driving stick.
Went back to Jenna's and watched some Fruits Basket, which like Ranma 1/2, is an anime that deals with body transformation. We threw some sheets on the mattress of a recently departed roommate, and I slept like a rock.
I'm home now, and midway through typing this, Mom and I discussed yesterday's goings on. We haven't made up, but it's all out there, at least. It absolutely blows my mind that I only really just got told what was bothering her. I'm going to let things cool down a while. But I may be looking for someplace else to be. I love m'mom. I love being home. But if it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

Mochi = slice o' heaven :9
My favorite section on wikipedia's def: "Mochi is very sticky and somewhat tricky to eat. Every year after the new year, it is reported in the media how many people die from choking on mochi."
Who knew? Suppose our guessings as to why they were cut into 4ths were a tad off, eh? In any case, thanks for introducing me to the greatest Asian sensation since... "Asian Sensations."
